Wine in Liguria has always been a symbol of hospitality and conviviality. The first vines were brought by Greek merchants who also taught the local tribes production techniques. It was then with the Romans that there was a remarkable advance in production quality.

By the Middle Ages, vines were well established and spread over the centuries until the arrival of phylloxera in the second half of the 19th century. This scourge destroyed much of the vineyard stock, which was then rebuilt starting in the second half of the twentieth centu The soils of Liguria are steeply sloping and uneven, with vines dropping steeply to the sea, so much so that viticulture can be described as heroic: the vineyards were carved out with terraces supported by stone walls, the characteristic “fasce.” Most of the vineyards today are white grape vines.

The most cultivated grape variety in the region is vermentino, followed by albarola, pigato, sangiovese, ormeasco, rossese and again bosco, bianchetta genovese, lumassina.

N.B. The wines tasted are all made from native grape varieties.
