We know it well, a language is not just about grammar, far from it! Knowing the culture is essential to understanding a language. And culture is not only that of literature and art. Culture is also knowing local traditions. On this journey of discovery you will be accompanied by our Italian language experts who, after a brief introduction, will take you on a pleasant walk along the main streets of Camogli, with a visit to the Gio Bono Ferrari Maritime Museum.

The small town of Camogli is famous for the popular events that celebrate its unbreakable bond with the sea; beloved by the locals, they have become an attraction that draws thousands of visitors every year. The first is the very popular Fish Festival held on the second Sunday in May. Established in 1952, it is a true festival of taste in which the protagonist is the huge frying pan used to fry fish, placed on display in the historic center. On the evening before the Fish Festival begins, the Feast of St. Fortunato is celebrated. Dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen, it is a mix of the sacred and the profane: the festival program includes solemn processions, fireworks, and bonfires on the beach.
Another festival not to be missed is held on the first Sunday in August and is dedicated to Stella Maris, the Madonna venerated by fishermen. The highlight of the festival is the procession of boats from Camogli harbor to Punta Chiappa, where a mass is celebrated. In the evening, lit candles are placed in the sea with a breathtaking effect on the water.

The sea is linked to Camogli's history and identity, so a visit to the small Gio Bono Ferrari Maritime Museum is strongly recommended: it is not a world-famous museum, but it is the best introduction to the maritime traditions that have forged the identity of this village. Every model, bottled ship, vintage photo, document, painting, nautical instrument, ship's log, or other seafaring-themed book you will see in this museum was donated by seafaring men who were born and lived in Camogli. This collection, beloved by the townspeople, is a priceless legacy of local history that speaks of toil and suffering but also of wealth and prosperity.
